What is a Patent Agent?

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office registers individuals to work with you to perfect your intellectual property rights as it relates to patents.

Patent agents are registered by the USPTO exactly in the same manner as patent lawyers.

To be a registered practitioner a person must have a scientific or technical education, be of sound moral character and must pass the patent bar exam.

A patent agent provides legal advice and services specifically related to advice and assistance in creating and filing patent applications as well prosecuting applications before the USPTO.

We also handle international applications and foreign applications through associates internationally. Patent agents’ services may often be at rates less than that of a patent attorney.
Of course it is strongly recommend that you contact an attorney for any matters requiring their services including trademark and copyright protection. Enforcing your patent rights also would involve the services of an attorney, although not necessarily a patent attorney.
